I...Sorry to hear of your latest challenges, Daisy.

I think that the long, grueling training process weeds out most (but certainly not all!) of those who would treat patients badly, just to make a buck. Every time one renews their license (every one to two years, depending on the state) one must answer a bunch of questions (under penalty of perjury and losing one's license) that cover everything from drug use to traffic tickets. Automatic reporting mechanisms are in place, such that if one has an adverse action taken against them at a hospital (or another state), then it is automatically reported to the medical board. Not a perfect system, but at least there IS a system, and it mostly works.

JoeClub 166https://www.blogger.com/profile/01816977079856902634noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821799658844915805.post-85137339225647424732011-05-14T17:35:05.982+01:002011-05-14T17:35:05.982+01:00I've recently had to trust several members of ...I've recently had to trust several members of the medical profession and I'm on a waiting list to see yet another. The only one that didn't meet my needs wasn't an MD; she held a PhD and a number of other alphabetical degrees. I feel lucky; if my trust had been betrayed in the way that Geier betrayed his patients' trust, it would be not only bad medicine, but could interfere with my seeking treatment in the future.

I'm glad to hear there are procedures in place to handle situations that result in bad medicine. I am not sure that physicians really put the patients' well-being before their own if they enter into agreements with insurance companies not to mention this or that treatment, though... another post.

Have missed you 'round. Hope all is well and the sun is shining with you all and esp.
